“To every child – I dream of a world where you can laugh, dance, sing, learn, live in peace and be happy” -Malala Yousafzai
I love working with kids. I provide assessment and diagnosis of Specific Learning Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Developmental Delay, Cognitive ability and, I run Base Camp, an Anxiety Management program for kids.
Child Based Assessment
- Cognitive ability and Developmental Delay,
- Specific Learning Disorders (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia),
- Behaviour and Attentional difficulties (ADHD)
I provide a child friendly space that caters for the developmental needs of children. I work flexibly with your child’s needs, at a pace that they are able to attend and concentrate, rather than to a fixed assessment time frame. I want the experience to be a positive one.
Most of all, I want to provide you with information and answers as to why your child is having learning and/or behavioural difficulties. Via a comprehensive psycho-educational assessment, I want to discover how your child learns and processes information. With this information, I want to provide you with strategies to enhance your child’s strengths as well as learning new strategies to help your child achieve their best.
Developing Minds Psychology use best practice, evidence-based assessments tools.
Anxiety Management
Everyone experiences anxiety, including children; its normal. Feeling worried and anxious is a way our bodies help keep us safe from danger. When we’re overly worried our thoughts and feelings are not easy to control and everyday challenges are hard to cope with. Children with “Big Worries” may not understand what they are experiencing and may try to avoid situations that make them feel worse. Big worries affect a child’s thoughts feeling and behaviour. This can affect your child’s performance at school, their friendships, and their courage to take small risks, or to extend themselves as they explore and experience their world.
Anxiety is one of the most common concerns facing children today. Anxiety can weave its way into all aspects of a child’s social, emotional and education life but, it can be overcome!
Group based anxiety programs provide an effective way for children to learn and understand why they experience anxiety, but also, as children learn in many ways, the inherent nature of the group, means that children get the opportunity to observe, model and practice skills in a safe and supportive environment.
