Karen Proctor MAPS

Hello, my name is Karen Proctor. For over 25 years I have worked as a psychologist in Canberra, with the last 7 years, focusing on the needs of children and young people in the Education sector.

I love working with kids. I provide assessment and diagnosis of Specific Learning Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Developmental Delay, and Cognitive ability.

Prior to starting Developing Minds Psychology, I worked with children, young people and their families in ACT Education to support children who were experiencing emotional difficulties and those who were seeking to understand their child’s learning needs.

Whether counselling or a psychoeducational assessment, I support students and their families through evidence-based interventions. I aim to help children understand their strengths, identify why they are having difficulties and, importantly, what they can do to about it.

Through the assessment process, I am passionate about providing families with a service that allows them to be informed and supported. I know that most families find supporting their child to undertake psychological assessments challenging and sometimes overwhelming, but I also know that ultimately, understanding the supports your child needs to succeed, can be both liberating and hopeful.

I have also worked as a Psychologist in tertiary education, supported children and young people in the disability sector providing functional behavioural assessments, as a counselling psychologist, and, with the Australian Federal Police to help prevent crimes against children.
